Why to dance and why to dance Tango?

You dance because you are alive, and you dance Tango because it is a wonderful way to become a better version of yourself,
for no other reason than counting the passing of time with a qualitative approach, in which we exert a constructive critical analysis of what can be better about us at every next moment.

Dancing Tango is a challenge to improve.

That is why we invite you to participate in our
at our three locations, starting on September 28. Click here.

Also, the first audio version of our "History of Tango" is now available. Read and listen to it by clicking here.

Tango is Life as a work of Art

Ready to the challenge?
Since the learning curve of Tango never ends, what counts is our predisposition to keep learning.

Now, you are ready to understand a bit more about the value of Tango, the value of what we, milongueros, value; the value of being engage, present, aware of your own body -with its possibilities and limitations, and the window of potential for improvement-, aware of your partner, of those who dance around you, of those who -you realize by listening to such wonderful tango music- had worked very hard and passionately on its creation and development for around 150 years, since Tango began.

Among them, Francisco Canaroabout whom I wrote the following article. Enjoy it!!!

TONIGHT, classes on different rhythms of tango: tango, milonga and vals.

It is understandable in some ways that the sense of belonging to a group that contains the individual’s anxieties and insecurities is an important aspect to value in relation to be part of a Tango community, but this community does not need to be about Tango if the focus is not on Tango. What Tango brings to add to this need for connection, is the Art. Without the Art and the discipline that it demands, any gathering would ultimately exhaust itself in mediocrity.

What brought you to Tango?

Dear students, milongueras and milongueros:
Welcome to learning to Tango!
Or, if you have already been learning Tango for a while, we would like to invite you to pause, and think for a moment about why you are here, and what the consequences are of your participation in Tango, for yourself, for those around you, in Tango or outside of it, for Tango itself, and for life itself.
Tango is education. Our purpose is to educate you about Tango.

What brought you here, to Tango?
Among the many answers that you could give, the only one that we care about is that you realized that you cannot live without Tango. If your answer is far away from this one, you are wasting your time, and ours. Tango is simple, but not at all easy. It requires passion, commitment, focus, perseverance and stamina.

If you are still here, what do you think Tango can bring to your life?
What Tango brings to your life is Tango. It is what you want it to be, and it is what you want your life to be.

At Escuela de Tango de Buenos Aires we work patiently, modestly and laboriously on improving our knowledge and understanding the infinite beauty of Tango.

Part of Tango is a human creation. Great musicians -Canaro, Firpo, De Caro, D'Arienzo, Di Sarli, Troilo, Pugliese, Laurenz... (to name a few); wonderful lyricists -Contursi, Flores, Cadícamo, Manzi, Discépolo... and many more-; amazing dancers -El Cachafaz, Carmencita Calderón, El Vazquito, Petroleo, Finito, Osvaldo and Coca, Blas, La Vitola, Pincen, Miller, Dante, Garcia, Zotto and many more-.

Part of Tango is nothing we made, like the proportions of our human bodies, like the perception of beauty that sounds awake in us, like the natural laws of physics that shape the possibilities of our movements...

Since Tango is something that already exists as it is when we come into Tango, we owe it a lot of respect.

We can see Tango as the planet we live on (actually, that is what Tango is for a milonguero o milonguera).
Do we really respect the planet Earth? This has been put in doubt lately, since we collectively hold the power to transform it for good or not.
We do not understand completely how we are affecting our planet, and it has now become a matter of survival of the human species and all forms of life on Earth, that we understand it, to be able to fully assess the consequences of our actions.
No difference with Tango. No matter how recently or long you have been in Tango, there will always be someone in it for longer that you and newer people coming in all the time.
You must always set a good example. That is really the way to promote and preserve the beauty of the Art of Tango, of which we all are responsible.
